DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY IN 2013

Divine Mercy Sunday 1st Sunday after Easter Year I 01-05-13 I Reading Acts 2:42-47 Spirit helps the Christians aim to live as Caring, Sharing and Loving community. II Reading I Peter 1:3-9 The Resurrection makes us a new generation. Gospel John 20:19-31 Christ’s victory over death gives us a hope in our life. One word of trust in the Lord allows us to be free of all our sins. We known a perfect contrition forgives the gravest sin. We live in this world where every thing is broken. We have so many limitations for example:- 1. Broken life. 2. Illness. 3. Limitations. 4. Cheating. 5. Pride. 6. Using wealth to propagate evil in the world. 7. Thirst for power. 9. Terrorism. 10. Wars. 11. Using the modern methods to limit life. 12. Using development out of selfish motives. When Jesus enters into our lives and transformed the whole of world’s outlook. He showed how to forgive. How to love. How to live for others. How to serve How to share. Today when the whole world celebrates the Divine Mercy Sunday. Spark of Jesus love and mercy becomes visible in our lives. How by our personal experience of finding Jesus has forgiven us. Have we ever encountered the forgiveness of the Lord? Like he forgave the sinful woman caught in adultery. Zachaeus forgiven and enfolded in the Christ’s company. Jesus Eating with the sinners and lost people. Pharisees and Jewish leader never liked Jesus sense of forgiveness. Jesus called he came to call one sinner leaving the 99 for one who is lost. He has given so many examples of this in his public ministry. Today when we see he encounters his own Disciples. He announces peace to them. Peace is sign of unity harmony. Then he gives them the power of the spirit to forgive sins Thomas is asked to come and place his hand in his side his fingers in the holes of the nails in his hand. His proclamation of his faith “My Lord and My God” Jesus can forgive and not even count the reason for forgiveness. He simply came to call us into his kingdom. He even knew his disciples would desert him still he loved them. He knew Peter would disown him, still he made him the head of the team. He knew Judas would betray him , still he never scolded him encouraged him to complete the work. When the human being accepts Jesus, as personal savior the redeeming Lord comes alive in their lives. Yes how often do I remember Jesus as my personal savior? Jesus constantly called the world to repent. Are we aware of the magnitude of our sins???? He would grant forgiveness. Just for asking. In our religion how easy it is to get forgiveness? Just go and accept your fault and confess. God instantly forgives??? What a reward for us. Justice in God’s sight is not reward and punishment. Just acceptance and restoration to the glory for which each one of us created. We lost our dignity due to our own pride and selfishness. Once we surrender and accept our nothingness the glory will shine. When Jesus gives the power of forgiveness to this disciples he gives a great key to them. Yes how much generous he is. He lived and died to save us. Now he continues to give this forgiving grace to us through this sacrament of penance. That is divine mercy of which saint Faustina proclaimed. Her whole life was a life of a missionary of Mercy. She called herself the secretary God’s mercy. She lived and proclaimed that her whole life was a shining example of grace being transmitted. When all over the world when people pray the chaplet of grace surely they accept the situation of sin. Once we accept this grace flows into our hearts. Come let us become aware of God’s grace and live to proclaim the grace we have received through the sacrament of penance of gift of reconciliation. 2nd Sunday in Advent 2012 Theme: Prediction of Deliverance

2nd Sunday in Advent 2012 Theme: Prediction of Deliverance. 1st Reading Is 40:1-5, 9-11 Glory of the Lord will be revealed. 2nd Reading II Peter 3:8-11 Peter preaches a way to heaven. Gospel Mk 1:1-8 John the Baptist calls for repentance for forgiveness of sins. In the political language the diplomats always speak about a roadway. road way to peace talk, a roadway to reconciliation, dialogue etc. What is the roadway to salvation? church speaks about the way the Lord during the Advent. II Sunday in Advent we see the road maker is JB He makes the valleys flat, mountains plain, desert fertile. He is living in the desert……. Where is the Lord? He is here with us. How to recognize the lord? In the least, lost, humble, poorest of the poor, powerless. But often we look for him in the powerful, proud, who have earned a name and fame. Where is the truth in such search? Today when we read the scriptures from Isaiah we realize that he is revealed in the in hearing the proclamation of deliverance. When people shout saying “Here is your God”. To recognize this God we have to know who he is? Peter preaches the way to his residence. He tells us reminding us the teachings of Jesus. His master had preached to him and the other disciples what their lot would be. They would have to undergo many sufferings. To reach heaven they will have to follow a narrow door. Narrow path. Jesus does not want any one of us be lost. He patiently invites each one of us for repentance. We have to live holy and saintly life. The invitation to live like saints is a challenge. Shall I heed to this invitation????? The Gospel is taken from Mark. The initial few lines are an introduction to John the Baptist. He is an austere person. He has left behind his parents. Lives in a desert. Eats funny food locusts and honey. He is wearing a very harsh type of clothing. Seeing his life style many Jews flock to him. He speaks to them of conversion. What is conversion. The conversion is leaving the life of sin. Opting to follow a master who would be following John the Baptist. He tells the people he is unworthy to even untie the straps of his shoes. What a humility. What do I feel my life is worth. God has chosen me to be a Christian. He has bestowed me the gift of faith. During this Advent. He invites me to follow him more earnestly. I Sunday in Advent 2012 Theme: Vigilant Hope year C

1st Sunday Advent year C Vigilant Hope!!! 2-12-12 1st Reading Jer. 33:14-16 The Institutions of the future. 2nd Reading 1st Thess. 3:12-4:2 Paul exhorts Christians to live in holiness and Charity. Lk 21:25-28, 34-36 Cosmic disasters and glorious coming of the Son of man, reveals us to be alert. The Psalmist teaches us that God’s ways are faithfulness and love. Love frequently expresses itself in promises and promises demand faithful fulfillment. Jeremiah speaks of God’s promises to the House of Israel and the House of Judah. Those promises, however, were only further expressions of the first and basic promise that God gave us: he would send us a saviour, born of a woman (Genesis 3:13). As we begin our celebration of Advent, we look back to that first promise and realize that it contains the essence of the Gospel which gives us light and life. A promise cannot be coerced but must be freely given. So all of God’s promises, particularly that first promise, were freely given: they were given through grace and their fulfilment was also an act of grace. So “all is grace”, as Saint Paul says (Rom 4:16). Using the words of St Paul to the Thessalonians, the Church today urges us to make more and more progress in the kind of life we are meant to live, that is to say, the life of our baptism promises the life of grace. Jeremiah’s prophesies make the reader to face the world with hope and not to despair. Discerning the spirit of God will help us to see all that happens around us to be alert to face it. We see people despairing and loosing hope because often the present scenario is not very encouraging to people who are living in hope. We are shown how a people who trusted in the power of God who would raise from the stock of David a redeemer. In today’s message Jeremiah cleverly reminds the hearer of the eternal enduring promise of God almighty. Surely for us, who have experienced God’s closeness in resignation to his will, can we say we are happy to be celebrating the Advent of the lord to celebrate Christmas? In the second reading in the Thessalonian’s letter we hear how Paul has been encouraging the believing community to live lives worthy of their choice as believers. Those days it might have been the way to instruct people so intimately. Today when we go to church to attend Eucharist as believing community, our lives have to change reasonably well. Our lives have to radiate Christ’s liberating love of which he speaks to his listeners. We are the same as Paul’s disciples who listened to his instructions. In the Gospel cosmic disasters are announced to show Christ is the master of the nature. When he eventually appears we will be at his right side. We have to stand erect because our liberation is near at hand. Our vigilant watchfulness will surely allow us to see him as he is- loving, caring and comforting. Jesus loves us with all our faults, not because we are worthy but he has loved us in spite of all these defects to free and liberate us.. So this Advent will enable us to be patiently waiting for the lord. Jesus has entered into our lives he still expects us to allow the door of our hearts to be opened widely!!! How can we open the door wide when we face financial recession all over the world? When people have lost jobs? Their children who used to attend the best schools are left to go to public schools? Where they have to struggle to get even the basics amenities for their living. When the social structures of large families are disintegrating. Single parent families emerge, same sex marriages are becoming legal, abortion is not considered sin, where fetus is aborted with no fear of sin, can we still be a believing community who can remain steadfast in hope and be vigilant in waiting to be liberated? Yes surely we are testimonies of God’s deliverance. He has he it is who has chosen us to be his testimony of love. We read so many testimonies of people who attend retreat and testify for a miracle. Can we do the same as general Christians who live our everyday lives as testimony of love????? I invite all of you just to live your lives joyfully!!!!!
